The FreMon Scientific founders have decades of experience in the development of patented biomedical devices including blood processing, cryopreservation, imaging and management systems, among other fields.
The co-founders have formed and managed medical enterprises valued over $100MM during their long tenures in the healthcare industry.
Farideh Bischoff received her Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from University of Texas Graduate School for Biomedical Sciences (Houston, TX) followed by postdoctoral training at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and Baylor College of Medicine. She is clinically trained and a recognized expert in human molecular genetics and cytogenetic; and has served as a full-time professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine. With over 300 papers/chapters published, Farideh has made significant contributions to the research and clinical fields of prenatal diagnosis, oncology, infertility and preimplantation genetic diagnosis.
Fred has 25+ years of medical service and device experience where he developed and expanded specialty health facilities in the US and Europe. He served as Director of Marketing and Business Development at AliMed Corp. where he reorganized operations and sales increased to $90+ million. He was Manager of International Business Development at Thermogenesis Corp. where he built and serviced a distribution network of partners in the EU, Middle East, Asia and Africa increasing sales by 200%. He has a B.S. degree from Boston University, a Certificate in Finance from Stanford University and Certificate in Planning from the Wharton School. Fred is a veteran awarded a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Air Medal.
An engineer with 25+ years of experience in business and technology development, marketing, R&D and engineering of medical devices and systems, Moni held positions as VP of R&D in ThermoGenesis Corp., Sr. Director of engineering at BioGenics Corp, VP of R&D & BD at MediVision Medical Imaging systems and VP of R&D at AFP Imaging Corp. Moni earned his M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in electronics from the Polytechnic Institute of New York University. Moni is a co-author of several patents in medical devices and is credited with the development of more than 20 medical devices in imaging, blood banking and cardiovascular clinical use.
Rebecque Laba currently serves as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining FreMon Ms. Laba was Vice President, Finance and Operations at Arcturus Therapeutics where she led the company through a merger with Alcobra Ltd., a publicly traded biotech company. Earlier she was at Celladon Corporation as Vice President, Finance and Corporate Operations. At Celladon Ms. Laba led the company from the preclinical stage to late-stage clinical phase raising over $160MM in equity and debt including a successful IPO. Prior to Celladon she was Senior Director, Finance and Administration at Idun Pharmaceuticals, acquired by Pfizer. Ms. Laba has over 20 years experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
Will Davey is a clinical lab and blood banking specialist with deep industry knowledge and experience. He worked over 10 years in medical center and hospital blood banks, 15 years with the American Red Cross in blood center operations including recruitment, automated collection and apheresis, component manufacturing and quality control. He also served for several years with TerumoBCT on the vendor side as Global Product Manager for the Trima apheresis device and automated Whole Blood Separation systems. Most recently, Will worked for over 8 years at the San Diego Blood Bank overseeing component manufacturing, lean systems design and development and research services. Will has a BA in Biological Science, BS in Clinical Laboratory Medicine and Medical Technology, and an MBA in Marketing and Business Operations. All from Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan.
Tom is EVP of Business Development, General Counsel and Secretary of CYS Investments (NYSE: CYS), a publicly-traded mortgage REIT. Previously, he served as General Counsel of Sharpridge Capital Management, L.P., and an external manager to CYS. Tom was a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP, and a member of the firm’s Private Equity & Venture Capital and Transactional & Securities Practices and the firm’s Emerging Technologies, Life Sciences, and Nanotechnology Industry Teams. Earlier, Tom was a partner with Epstein Becker & Green, P.C. During his tenure at each firm he represented middle-market public companies, entrepreneurs, founders, emerging businesses, startups, and partnerships in diverse industries. Tom has served on the Board of Directors or as an advisor for several of his clients.
Mr. Joseph J Cohen is the Founding Principal of HoyleCohen Wealth Management, a San Diego-based Registered Investment Advisory firm. Mr. Cohen is also the managing member of ABC Funding Strategies, LLC, a niche lending firm. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and served 10 years on active duty. He attended the Sloan School (MIT) and earned an MBA in 1974. Mr. Cohen enjoys extended philanthropic work and has served on boards including The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, The San Diego Jewish Community Foundation, The Orcas Island Community Foundation, and more. He currently consults for a number of nonprofit organizations.
Dr. Rania Ahmed
M.D., Vice President of Product Development
Dr. Ahmed has more than 15 years of experience in the blood banking, cord blood banking, stem cell processing and general medical arenas. She is the co-founder of StemHealth, Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Ahmed was Project Manager for Stem-Health, Athens, Greece; Regional Marketing Representative for MAK-System in Paris, France and marketing manager for the Egyptian National Blood Transfusion Services, Cairo, Egypt. She received her medical degree from the Kasr El-Aini Medical School, Cairo University and her MBA from the Hult International Business School. She resides in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is fluent in Arabic, French, English, Hindi and Spanish.
Our Professional Advisory Board has extensive experience in medical practice, medical device development, blood, plasma and stem cell use, blood banking and transfusion medicine. They advise FreMon Scientific on quality control, features, customer use, requirements and practical applications.
Dr. Viscomi is a clinical radiologist, professor, and researcher. He is a former faculty member of Harvard Medical School and a clinician and department chairman at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, among other roles. He holds teaching appointments at University of Massachusetts Medical School, Baystate Medical Center and Quinnipiac University.He is an internationally recognized expert in imaging, advising physicians of all specialties. He is a leader of many startups, including the Chief Medical Investment Officer for LaunchByte, a published author and an expert advisor.Dr. Viscomi completed residency and specialization at Harvard Medical School and completed the Executive Education Program at Harvard Business School in 2016.
Dr. Yael Shechter
Dr. Yael Shechter is the former head of the prestigious Magen David Adom Blood Services, the Israeli equivalent of the American Red Cross. She completed a PhD in Biochemistry at Iowa State University. She went on to become a faculty member at the Rapport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion in Israel, in the Biochemistry department. She also taught at the Georgetown University Biochemistry department, and then moved back to Israel, to become the director of the blood bank at Haifa’s Ramban Health Care Campus, one of the country’s largest hospitals. Her long-term directorship included a unit for therapeutic Plasmapheresis and stem cell collection and freezing, and a laboratory for platelet Immunology. After a 26-year career at Rambam, Dr. Shechter become the head of Magen David Adom Blood Services.
Dr. Carter has extensive medical, clinical and research experience and is currently with the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She serves on the Harvard Club Board of Directors and the Bentley University Arts and Sciences Board of Directors. She received her M.D. at the University of Illinois School of Medicine; an MPH from Dartmouth Medical School and a B.A. from Harvard University.
Dr. Sand is VP of Research & Regulatory Affairs for Greyledge Technologies of Vail, Co. He has extensive experience in evaluation and acquisition of blood science technology, has 12 patents and 13 peer reviewed publications. Dr. Sand received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Minnesota, served a postdoc at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, La Jolla, Ca and received his BS at the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Shreya Sood
Dr. Sood is a pediatric radiologist and instructor at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School with clinical, teaching and research experience. She enjoys combining principles within medicine with the biotech industry. She also participates in projects dealing with healthcare innovation and volunteers in international outreach. She is involved in quality initiatives, healthcare-related consulting roles, and offers second opinion reads. She received her M.D. from Yale School of Medicine and a B.A. from Cornell University.
